MY BANGARI
Bangaram- I love the stillness and the easy going calmness amongst your sun kissed beaches. Feeling one with the nature, the moment I set the foot on your wonderful silky sands. The moored boats sway in rhythm along with the idyllic waves, so gentle yet playfully foamy. Your crystal cold water is home to the busy bobbing colored ducks and the majestic gliding white swans. The little mast headed boats complete the picture perfect scenario who look like decked up brides in flowing white garments. The swimmers passing by, can’t but admire the swans who are trying to keep pace with them, rolling a friendly competition. The beautiful mermaid sculpture at your shore is a great attraction, set carefully at the entrance of the bathing open sea suite. A long wooden pier helps me to wade into the turquoise waters. I get inspired to swim like the lovely aqua Mer-lady. The invigorating touch of the cool blue water is a complete healing process; boost to the body and mind.
The little boys and girls trying to fish or extricate the black creek crabs hidden under the boulders is indeed a great pass time. The glee on the faces when their moms manage to net a crab is priceless. Their little claps resound over the waves onto the calm ever stretching environs. The huge ships saying adieu to the natural harbor with hundreds of birds circling above is another awesome view, a treat to the eyes. The silvery clouds shining on the masts of these sailing beauties is indeed matchless gift.
Somehow you feel the leafy glades and the huge trees talk with you on a one to one personal basis, the connect is surreal, conveying the romance of your well-meant Bangaram. The vast whispering canopies with their cute winged guests perching on the mighty branches is an atmosphere filled up with mischievous cacophony.
The sun is sharp but the temperature is a comfy 25C, could make you shiver a bit, but the locals are so happy. Time to splash I guess.
The merriness of just being coupled with sun and sand is mesmerizing to the senses and soul. The spray on your face with its salty tinge is both pleasure and a bit of pain, but sweet at one though. The bangari scents can’t be missed even in the dreams. The coconut trees stand in attention like many handed Gods, saluting thee. The fronds gently swaying in the fresh evening breeze look like fine filters when they cross each other creating a network kinda design, the rays peeping in from those jalis is pure joy!
The people of bangaram are traditionally imbedded with golden hearts in terms of hospitality and graciousness, it comes naturally for them to smile and greet. Their cuisine drums up the tourist taste buds; be it a simple coconut veg stew or a fine masala fried fish in banana leaves, letting wafting
smells to the nearby islands! A simple request from the guest is treated like a word from God, has to be carried out, no matter what. The Indian tag line of Athiti devo bavah is surely implemented in full spirit here, of course with a touch of Bangari- The golden hue.
Well, the grand finale of our trip was the arrival of the destination wedding party. We were waiting for the cab in the pre reception area when, smartly dressed joyous kids trooped in. Their parents and other guest were equally well adorned with the finery. The bride looked resplendent in white saree brocaded with silver and gold hued lines. A red designer zaari blouse shone completed the attire. The bride glistening in the evening dull Sun. The shore background and the lush green lawns gave a fitting backdrop. The handsome bearded groom in ready to wear dhoti panche with gold ornaments on his jubba looked manly and magnificent. He held the brides hand, escorting her with a glinty lovy look till the reception deck, only to be exuberantly received by the ecstatic guests and relatives. Their shy smile conveyed a million untold love stories and we cast a happy parting tear while walking to our anxious taxi driver….
Bangari— Here I come again into your fold.
